Gratitude Challenge: 7 days to building a happier life

The definition of is gratitude is the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness. When we begin to focus our attention onto what is true, good, and beautiful in our lives, we begin to shift our mindset from an inward, to an outward perspective. And when we begin to focus on the positive things in our life, we become more focused on what truly matters. Over time, this can lead to a more balanced and happy life. Our guest blogger, Christie Lanzilotti, wants to challenge you to 7 days of gratitude.
Practicing being thankful is an art in itself. It may take a little getting used to, but I promise you this challenge will be worth it. A beautiful way to begin this journey towards happiness is to start every morning with a list of things you are grateful for. In the early hours of the day, find a peaceful spot in your home where you can be by yourself. Take some deep breaths. Try to reflect and meditate on what you truly are thankful for. You can start with smaller things and lead up to bigger things, there is no right or wrong way to approach this! Try to be as specific as you can when creating your list. For example, my list today began with:
I am thankful for the dinner my partner prepared for us last night
Long walks in the sunshine under palm trees 

My beautiful dog who brings so much joy into my life

The laughter I share with my sister

For being able to create and share my photography and artwork with others

Long drives and life talks with my brother

 Keep going until you reach a natural end point. Sometimes my lists are long and sometimes they are on the shorter side. Try do this every morning, you can even do it from your bed! You can write your list in a journal, on a napkin, or on sticky notes…whatever you decided on will work. At one point, my entire bedroom wall was covered in post-it notes of things I was thankful for and I loved it! Forming this little morning habit of gratitude will help you to become more balanced, positive, and lead you closer to happiness.

With each new day, we have a fresh start. And with the beginning of every fresh start, we have a choice to make. You need to make the conscious decision to begin the day with positive energy and a heart full of gratitude. For the next 7 days, dedicate some time in your mornings to creating your list. It can take as little as 3-5 minutes. I like to light a candle, or put essential oils in the diffuser. Create a peaceful and sacred space for yourself and begin!   • Helpful Tips

    Hydrate! Drink plenty of water before class

    Wear cool, comfortable clothing such as biking or running shorts and fitted tank tops or sports bras.

    Don't take class on a full stomach. Eat a light snack, if needed, before class, but nothing too heavy.

    Come at least 20 minutes early before your first class for registration.

    Don't be nervous. Most new students feel a little intimidated, but after only a few classes you'll feel right at home.
