Pose of the week: Half Moon

POSTURE 2: HALF MOON POSE–ARDHA-CHANDRASANA 
This week we will be highlighting the second posture of 26 poses of Bikram Yoga. This posture is known as Half Moon Pose. This challenging pose is meant to position the spine in lateral flexion-meaning it causes it   to side bend. The goal is to stretch the entire body from the heels of your feet to the tips of your hands. Half Moon is a deep strengthening and stretching pose. It is known to work wonders for the circulatory and skeletal systems. When done correctly, it can strengthen every muscle in the central part of the body,  especially in the abdomen and back. It can also create bursts of energy, correct issues of back pain, get rid of bad posture, and it is an essential way to strengthen the core muscles. What’s not to love? If you struggle with this pose in the beginning, don’t worry! It takes time and practice. Don’t give up. We believe in you and you can do it!

POSTURE 1: STANDING DEEP BREATHING – PRANAYAMA 
Our pose of the week begins with the Standing Deep Breathing- Pranayama Posture. It is the first pose of the 26 postures of Bikram yoga. It is derived from the words Prana (meaning: life force) and Yama (meaning: control). If you are struggling with pent up stress or anxiety, this is the pose for you. Leave the hectic issues of everyday life at the door and clear your mind of any stress, or worry. With each deep breath, allow the flow of air to your lungs help to relax your mind and calm your body. Let go of the stress and allow yourself to focus on healing and positivity.  This pose is especially beneficial to the respiratory system and lungs. As you continue to practice this stance, focus on letting go of the negativity in your life and move your attention to gratitude and love.     Hydrate! Drink plenty of water before class

    Wear cool, comfortable clothing such as biking or running shorts and fitted tank tops or sports bras.

    Don't take class on a full stomach. Eat a light snack, if needed, before class, but nothing too heavy.

    Come at least 20 minutes early before your first class for registration.

    Don't be nervous. Most new students feel a little intimidated, but after only a few classes you'll feel right at home.
